The pain and severity of attack was lesser when honey was used and the healing process was much faster too. This is truly surprising since most people normally assume that the natural remedies are just “hokey” whereas the chemical based treatments are more effective.

Honey inhibits the growth of the herpes virus. When the virus is unable to multiply, it cannot cause as much problems. The body’s immune system will be able to heal the sores and bring the episode to a quick end. That’s one reason why treating cold sores as soon as possible, mitigates the problem much more effectively.

The herpes virus could be herpes simplex 1 or 2 (oral herpes & genital herpes). It could also be herpes zoster which is commonly known as shingles. Whatever herpes virus you may have, honey can be used to treat it.

Since it is a natural product, you can apply it to your lips, face, genitals, etc. without worrying about any adverse reactions. You should be aware that while honey is excellent at treating the symptoms of herpes, it is not a cure.

There is no cure for herpes. If you wish to prevent recurrent episodes, your best bet will be to minimize the triggers such as stress, a weak immune system, etc.

Now, you may be thinking, “That’s excellent. Let me go get the honey from the kitchen!”

Before doing that, you should know that you should only use raw honey. The regular processed honey will not be effective and may actually worsen your condition. Remember… ONLY raw honey.

The best option is Manuka honey that is in a fluid state. Method of application is pretty straightforward. Just apply the honey directly on your sores or blisters. Do this for about 3 to 4 times a day. Ideally, the sores should be covered with honey for as long as possible.

This may be inconvenient at times but is par for the course if you wish to treat your herpes.

There are hardly any side effects to using honey. The honey works on the cold sores in 3 ways.

It dries up the sores by drawing moisture and fluids away from them. It reacts with the sores to produce small amounts of hydrogen peroxide which disinfect the sores. Lastly, it prevents the bacteria from multiplying and spreading.

Honey truly is a very potent remedy against herpes sores. Of course, there are many other remedies such as aloe vera, oregano oil, etc. However, if you have cold sores, you should give raw Manuka honey a try and see if it works for you.

You may be pleasantly surprised at the results.
