Citrus Angel Cake Low Calorie Recipe
Citrus Angel food cake is often referred to as the dieter’s cake, because it’s so light and fluffy; this particular Citrus Angel Cake Low Calorie Recipe is seriously good!
It has the least amount of calories of most kinds of cake out there. This low calorie recipe is a good spin on citrus angel cake.
It’s up to you which citrus flavour you like best to give it that little hint of something special.
Super Foods For Mind And BodyAs an aside, this is by far the fluffiest angel food cake recipe I’ve tried to date.
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups egg whites (this will be around 10 eggs)
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
- 1 cup flour, sifted (cake flour or all purpose is fine)
- 1 tsp cream of tartar
- 3 tablespoons of frozen juice mix, thawed (you can use orange juice, lemonade, limeade, or any other citrus juice flavour)
- 3/4 sugar
Instructions:
- Get a large bowl and add the egg whites. Cover the bowl and let it set for around 20-30 minutes so the eggs can reach room temperature.
- Sift the powdered sugar and flour together 2-3 times and set aside.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- Grab the egg white bowl and add the cream of tartar. Mix with an electric mixer on medium until it starts to make soft peaks. You know it’s at soft peaks when the tips of the peaks curl down.
- Add the thawed concentrated juice and begin adding the granulated sugar a few spoonfuls at a time. Beat the eggs until they form hard peaks where the tips stay standing.
- Start to fold the flour and powdered sugar mixture in about 1/5 of the mixture at a time until it’s all combined.
- Pour batter into an non-greased 10-inch tube pan. Place on the lowest rack and bake for 40 minutes. The top should spring back when lightly pressed on.
- Pull the cake out and put it upside down on the counter or a cutting board to cool.
- Once it’s cooled, remove from the pan and enjoy.
