If you’ve led a sedentary life for years, you don’t even need to sign up for a gym membership in January. All you need to do is go for a brisk walk daily and clean up your diet a little. See if you can stick to these small, progressive changes.

If you can, try incorporating bodyweight training in your exercise regimen. If you dedicated 3 months solely to bodyweight training at home, you could be just as lean and strong as people who go to the gym. Can you stick with it?

If you can, then you’ll definitely be ready to sign up at your local gym. You’ve proven that you’re consistent and you have the discipline to do what you say you’ll do. Gyms make their money from members who pay for an entire year but never show up after the second month. What a fantastic business for them.

Instead of making it the last thing to do, make it the first. Wake up, brush your teeth and go work out. Even a 20-minute high intensity session can have immense benefits. Now that you’ve gotten it out-of-the-way, you will get by the rest of the day just fine without this weighing on your mind throughout the day.

If you work a late shift, the same rule applies. Get your workout done as soon as possible after waking. Sometimes you may need to wake a little earlier just to get the workout done. It’s a struggle but you need to do it if you want to lose the weight and feel better.

Even a quick 15 minute interval training that involves sprinting back and forth will leave you panting and soaking with sweat. You’ll be in fat burning mode for hours after just 15 minutes of training. You still have 45 minutes to take a shower, grab a bite and go back to work.

The key to coping with the “too tired” excuse is to get the workout in before you start your day or during the middle part of day. Do not keep it till the end of the day. All of us wake up with a fixed amount of energy for the day. By the end of the day, your energy levels are low and almost depleted.

You just do not have the energy to muster up your will power. You make excuses and skip the workout sessions. Then you regret it deep in your heart because you’ve let yourself down. This situation will probably repeat itself the next day and the next… until you totally stop thinking about exercise.

To get around this, your goal should be to get the workout over and done with as soon as you can. You hate it. Guess what? So do a lot of other people. Get it done ASAP and you do not have to think about it.

Make your workouts as convenient as possible. For example, if you only have time to work out after work, make sure your gym is close to your workplace so that you can quickly get there and workout before going home. You must make things as easy as possible for you to workout.

The majority of people are not too keen on exercise. Even those who’ve been doing it for years may skip a session if you gave them a chance. So, be mindful of this and focus your efforts on being consistent and never missing your workouts.

Those times when you just do not have the motivation to train… those are the most important times that you do. If you let one workout slide, you can bet that skipping another will become easier. Sooner or later, you’re not training anymore and you’ve let your weight slide uncontrollably too. It all starts with one skipped workout. Bear that in mind at all times.
