While we understand that exercise can alleviate anxiety, a balanced diet plan to help control tension and stress in our increasingly busy life-style will be a great asset in attaining a higher level of general health and fitness.

Sugar contributes to tension. You may observe that a while after eating a sweet treat or a bar of chocolate, you start to feel fatigued. While the sugar may help in the short-term, you are just adding wood to the fire in the long run. Conversely, snacking on protein is much healthier for you and assists to maintain blood sugar levels as well. Popcorn is a good snack to help you get through the 3 o’clock yearning for something sweet.

You should try to avoid foods with a high salt content as it can increase blood pressure which, when challenged with a stressful situation, can enhance the tension twofold.
Foods such as hot dogs are high in salt.

Another good idea is to stay away from foods that have a high saturated fat content. Rather, go with vegetables, fruits, lean meats, fish, chicken, beans, and leafy green vegetables.
These are not only healthy for you, they also contain antioxidants that are useful in decreasing free-radicals in your body. For instance, you can choose turkey hamburgers which are much leaner and lower in saturated fats than normal beefburgers.

Another good idea is, instead of going out to lunch, you can make lunch at home and bring it to the workplace. Cut up some carrots, celery, and add some cottage cheese or tuna in brine. Or, you can make a healthy salad with pieces of chicken and lemon vinaigrette.

Also, drink plenty of water each day.
